Serval (Leptailurus serval)

These cats look a lot like the leopard, just smaller and not dangerous at all. The Serval male can weigh up to 14 kg with a shoulder height of 65 cm. The length of this cat is 70 cm without the tail which is another 26 cm.

In Afrikaans the name is Tierboskat, in Tswana Tadi and in Shona Nzudzi.

They live in long grass, close to water and mountains. They are mostly night animals but sometimes they are also visible during daytime.

Serval eat mice, rabbits, birds, reptiles and other small species.

The pregnancy lasts 74 days and 1 – 5 kittens can be born that weigh up to 220 g each.

The actual track is 4-5 cm long.
